“Old Masters” Art Show in Belmar

“Old Masters” Art Show in Belmar

I am entering a miniature piece in the upcoming art show at Belmar Arts, “Old Masters.” It is called “Dutch Still Life, Miniaturized and Deconstructed.” I started out making a straightforward still life in a deep frame and that is a project I plan on carrying out extensively in the future. But my frame was too large for the miniatures I had chosen so I searched around and came across a hinged box. This picture shows it completely open but it will be displayed with the sides folded perpendicular to the back. It just seemed more interesting to me than to take the traditional still life and put some of the objects on different planes.

National Building Museum Show

The show “Small Stories: At Home in a Dollhouse” at the National Building Museum opens this weekend. It features historic dollhouses from London’s Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood. An additional part of the show is a Dream House consisting of 24 15inch square cubes with scenes by different artists and designers. I created one of those cubes, Harry Potter’s Cupboard Under the Stairs (you can see the progress here and here). All the images can be seen on the NBM Flickr site.
