Progress Report #6

Progress Report #6

Sheri, Kathy, and Ron are sharing some images and thoughts about their progress on Lady and the Tramp:

Well we are seeing the finish line,  whee.

We have our flooring all marked, finally and are ready to get the flower boxes built.   Last year we had several shapes and gardens all over our exhibit.  To make the boxes work or odd shapes, we improvised with materials.  On set up day it was a real trick to squeeze those babies into their spots. This year we are measuring twice and cutting once and keeping the fancy out of the equations.

Here is Kathy, deep in thought making porch railings.  So hard to keep the spacing.  Then she has all that  gingerbread to deal with. And she said she doesn’t do detail work.  I helped by watching and it was not easy.  I also watched Ronnie, who also doesn’t do detail work, measure, cut and glue every board for siding on each store front.

No Studio is complete without a workman.  Most of the utility cart  supplies I took from Ronnie’s workroom.  It is amazing what you can use or make tiny.

Ron and Chris are working on their Little Shop of Horrors exhibit and the shop is taking shape. Notice the gigantic “Audrey” in the corner as she becomes a flesh eating plant!

Sheri, Kathy, and Ron have been working on their movie set for the animated Disney feature Lady and the Tramp. They have details being added to their kitchen for the restaurant scene and the street scene. Sheri explains,

Working hard at designing movie sets in a Disney studio.  We have started building with the set that are displaying  as being filmed.  We are also doing background sets to give the exhibit the studio feel.  Our approach was to pick our design sets then as we build we continue to design along the way.  Part of the way we work is to make aesthetic changes as we work.  This includes the color palette, placement and the story we are telling in all of the sets & materials.  Thus its just not one scene but 3 and the activity in the studio.

We have our 10 exhibitors for the 2015 Flower Show and have a preliminary list of the movies they will be recreating. Here they are, with a sample image or two from the movie, but not necessarily the scene the exhibitor has chosen (those will come later). Take a look at the dates for our movies: we definitely are trending towards early and middle 20th century!
